"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1 KJV
Ok... I decided to look this up in my NIV version... yes, I often refer to both.
This is the NIV translation.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1 NIV
Ok, this spoke to me. I can talk the talk but am I walking the walk? This morning when I read this scripture, I realized that I'd not "really" seen my losing weight as presenting my body as a living sacrifice. And, maybe that isn't what Peter is talking about at all. BUT, God brought it to my attention so I believe it was meant for me and maybe you, too.
So I had to ask myself what is a sacrifice? Then I went to the dictionary and looked it up. This is the definition I found:
sac·ri·fice - noun \ˈsa-krə-ˌfīs, also -fəs or -ˌfīz\
: the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone.
I don't want to keep this weight! but I also find it hard to lose it. I have doubts and fears. If I lose this roundness (yes, I'm being kind to self), will I look older? Will my skin sag? Will my spouse like the smaller me? those are just a few of the questions Satan has flittered through my mind and I bet you've heard them, or a variation of them, too.
I realized that Satan has been tricking me~! Because of those thoughts, I've been talking the talk but not walking the walk. I made a decision this morning to present my body as a living sacrifice. I'm going to eat the way, I know God wants me to eat. I'm going to exercise, even when my knee hurts (but I'm going to be smart in my exercising and you should, too) and above all else I'm going to submit my actions as a reasonable service or spiritual act of worship to God.
