How to Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau by Fooling Your Metabolism

By Vanessa Summer

If you're like the majority of people, then you have tried many diets, with varying degrees of success. It is likely you lost a bit of weight, got to a certain point and then, regardless of what you tried, couldn't lose any more. This plateau is hit by just about everyone and is common amongst the various weight loss programs. It's not possible to avoid the plateau problem if you don't discover how to deceive your metabolism.

You probably have already experienced this plateau, which will normally end the diet plan with lots of discouragement. This is a strange phenomenon, which happens to successful dieters about the third or fourth week of their diet. Until that moment, the weight comes off and then it just stops and nothing you do can get your body to get rid of more weight. This is the body responding to the things you happen to be putting it through. Your body goes into protection mode to prevent starvation, so it slows down your metabolic rate. This, then, stops you from being able to drop more excess weight.

This is what makes a lot of people believe that they simply aren't capable of attaining their weight loss goals and they throw in the towel. This is exactly what causes most people to start eating again and they often gain back more weight than they lost to begin with. The best way to avoid this is to pick a diet in which you simply shift your calories. This means you eat a different number of calories every day which can help fool your metabolism. When this works, it helps to keep your body from flipping the switch and going into protective mode. This will keep your body's metabolism working, rather than slowing down, and your body goes on to lose weight. When you get to this point, you will have passed your plateau and your diet will keep on working the way it was made to work.

It is not tough to work this plan into your daily schedule. One of the more widely used techniques of calorie shifting is the 14 day method. This method goes for 14 days: you do ordinary things for the first eleven and then in the last three you eat whatever you want. You can move your foods during the day and deceive your metabolism and then for three days eat what you would like to eat and stop the plateau. This will also help you from being frustrated with a rigid diet regimen. Just keep on repeating the fourteen days until you've reached your weight loss targets.

The 2 day plan is one other way, where you eat as usual for one day, and the other day you reduce your calories by 20% to 35%. Keep repeating the method for as long as it takes you to reach a satisfactory level of weight loss. This is a program that is deserving of your attention because it could be just what you need to pass your plateau and lose all of the weight you would like to lose.
